Activities <br />have been expanded without an expansion in personnel. Councilwoman Hayward agreed <br />that the community relations position should be maintained, and that additional <br />personnel was needed in the Manager's office. She felt perhaps the Council should be responsible for hiring <br />that person. <br /> <br />Dr. Purdy felt it was the consensus of the Council that more staff was required, <br />and moved, seconded by Mr. Teague to ask the City Manager to submit a recommendation <br />to the budget committee, outlining the duties of Assistant City Manp,ger. , Motion carried. <br /> <br />Mr. McDonald moved seconded by Mr. Teague to approve Item 4 of the Committee report.. Pedestrian Mall, Commercial Signing- Street signs will heed to be re~0eated as part <br />of urban renewal. An ordinance amendment will be required to allow the proposed <br />plan to be put into effect. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Mr. Gribskov moved seconded by Mr. McDonald to authorize the City Manager to prepare <br />an amendment to the ordinance to facilitate relocation of signs in the urban renewal <br />area. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Councilman Williams suggested that this should be reviewed by the Sign Boar.d and the <br />Planning Commission. Proposed Amendment, Equal Opportunity Ordinance - Amendment of the Equal Opportunity <br />Ordinance will provide for inclusion of fair employment practice provision in city <br />contracts, to prevent discrimination against employes or applicants. <br /> <br />In answer to Councilman Moh~, City Attorney said they have prepared proposed amendments <br />to city contracts to eliminate problems caused by failure of employers to abide by <br />State labor laws. <br /> <br />No action taken. <br /> <br />Mr. McDonald moved seconded by Mr. Teague to receive and file Item 6 of the Committee report. Items from Mayor and Council <br />a,: Earth Day ;::; Kelly Putney, Uni versi ty students, exp1ained that students, in cooper- <br />ation with University Parks and Recreation, had prepared 38 litter barrels, which will <br />be placed around the campus as part of the Earth Day survival fair. Campus Violence - Mayor Anderson commented about campus violence, and concern that <br />the tqtal university population would be blamed for the attitude and actions of <br />so few.
