II <br /> II <br /> il 2. Extra City Costs, University Protection - Costs incurred as the result of a recent series I: <br /> Ii of incidents at the University of Oregon-campus totaled $33,299.19. ' Council support is <br /> requested in an attempt to recover these costs from the State of Oregon. Councilman I <br /> I Mohr felt that this was a serious matter, and he was concerned that no action had been <br /> ,I <br /> I' taken to assess civil liability by the state system or university for the extra expenses. <br /> II <br /> Ii He felt that the State Board had not looked at the options available in this case. <br /> Ii Dr. Purdy suggested that the future university contracts should have a contingency inserted <br /> " <br /> II for things of this nature. <br /> Ii <br /> 'j <br /> 11 Mr. Teague moved seconded by Dr. Purdy to authorize the administration to send a statement <br /> to the proper authorities in the amount of $33,299.19 for extra services. Motion carried. <br /> II <br /> I: <br /> " Mr. Teague moved seconded by Dr. Purdy to approve' Item 2 of the Committee report. <br /> Ii <br /> ,: <br /> Ii The City Maneger said that s,ince the committee meeting, a request was received from the Lane Coupty <br /> II <br /> ji Sheriff's office to include in the city billing an amount of approximately $13,000 to cover c0StS,~ <br /> based upon the assumption that the city of Eugene was in' charge of the proceedings and that the I <br /> I <br /> I: Sheriff's Department was helping in the instance involved. i <br />I I: Councilwoman Hayward asked if the Lane County Sheriff's office had a contract with the U. of 0., <br /> and thought that they would want two separate billings. <br /> il <br /> ,I The City Manager said that they did not have a contract with the University of Oregon, <br /> rI and that <br /> I: they were responding to a request from the city of Eugene for additional manpower. The city <br /> " <br /> iI billing was not based upon the U. ofO. contract, which would cover only a small portion of the <br /> Ii <br /> :i $33,000. <br /> II <br />- Ii A vote was taken on the motion as stated. Harriet House, Request for Funds - The Police Department has confirmed facts as outlined in <br /> 'I a letter received from Mrs. Vivien Hinton requesting funds to assist with a facility to <br /> II <br /> Ii serve fema~e alcoholics. The Police Department has not referred anyone to this facility, <br /> and did not know it was in operation. The City has no appropriation for this request. <br /> II <br /> II Contributions to Buckley House and Halfway House have been on the basis of services per- <br /> I: formed which are of city benefit. <br /> II <br /> " <br /> II Mrs. Hayward said that the budget committee had recommended the formation of a committee <br /> I! to act on such requests . Dr. Purdy said that this committee would meet in the near future, <br /> Ii but that this would not solve the present problem. <br /> Ii <br /> Ii Councilman Mohr said that there are a number of other agencies who have been looking to <br /> " <br /> I! the development of a detoxification center for the eity. <br /> i: u <br />I , Mr. Hinton said that Buckley House does some detoxification, but that this is practically <br /> i! <br /> all male, and in the interim there is still a need for help for women.
