Roll call
vote; motion carried unanimously.
E. Increase of Patron User Fee for Hult Center for the Performing Arts
Mr. Gleason noted that this ordinance amendment would increase the patron user
fee from $.25 to $.50 per ticket.
Public hearing was opened.
Lois Young, 1359 East 24th Avenue, said that she was a patron of the arts on a
limited budget. She suggested that raising the user fee one dollar would be
doing something serious about the serious problem of the center's deficit. She
went on to state that there was no excuse for empty seats at the center, and
e suggested that low-income persons might be able to exchange services for seats,
and that seats remaining three hours before a performance should be sold half-
price to students, seniors, and the unemployed.
There being no further public testimony, the public hearing was closed.
In response to a question by Councilor Schue, Mr. Reynolds of the Hult Center
said that the Budget Committee had recommended the 25 cent increase, and that a
larger increase might be larger than the market would bear.
Councilor Smith stated her appreciation for the suggestions offered in testimony.
CB 2657--An ordinance concerning the patron user fee tax; amending
Section 3.810 of the Eugene Code, 1971; providing an
effective date; and declaring an emergency.
Ms. Schue moved, seconded by Mr. Obie, that the bill be read the
second time by council bill number only, with unanimous consent of
the council, and that enactment be considered at this time.
