Mr. Lieuallen said twenty-eight thousand delegates will attend meetings in
e the metropolitan area this September, October, and November. More
conventions will be held here in those months than in any other three
months. He reviewed advertising and promotional activities and said Van Duyn
representatives want to participate in promotional efforts for the area. He
said the efforts will raise the profile of the area and contribute to the
economic health of Eugene, Springfield, and Lane County.
Ms. Ehrman suggested that the Eugene Celebration be mentioned in
advertising. Mr. Lieual1en said it will be included in the fall campaigns.
Ms. Ehrman asked if the Convention and Visitor Bureau.s allocation from the
room tax fund had been changed by the council's action to re-allocate room
tax funds to the five major arts organizations. Mayor Obie directed the
staff to consult with Ms. Ehrman.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:48 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
~. .
~r :..u-...<.'~ /
.~~
Micheal Gleason
City Manager
e (Recorded by Betty Lou Rarick)
BLR:pv/1894C
e
MINUTES--Eugene City Council October 23, 1985 Page 11
