~ 4________
( he sees it, the decision should be based on whether the Council thinks the e
idea has merit, not whether the performers can make money. Mrs. Smith
wondered if there was enough time to go through the process of organizing
these performances, conducting auditions, etc. It was felt there would be
enough time to get started a week or so before Christmas.
Mr. Kushner reiterated that they would like to try it on ~n experimental
basis, then formalize something with the appropriate people. He does not
feel that the weather would be a deterrent. Mayor Keller felt that
necessary support might be provided if Mr. Kushner were to take the
proposal to the Downtown Development Board, perhaps by means of a special
meeting. Mr. Obie said that as far as he was concerned, they could start
immediately. Ms. Miller said that she has been aware of the group's
efforts since late August. They have gone through many steps, and she
favors them going ahead with it. If they can experiment in December, then
the Downtown Deve lopment Board will have someth i ng to re act to at the ir
meeting in January.
Mr. Delay moved, seconded by Mrs. Smith, to approve the memo as
presented by the Parks Department, and refer it to the Downtown
Development Board at their next meeting for review. Motion carried
. unanimously.
Mr. Obie left the meeting.
(' V. 'REZONING OF GRAVEL PONDS ON GOODPASTURE ISLAND (Memo and Map Distributed) e
Manager said that, in July of 79, the City was negotiating for acquisition
for some of the property that had been suggested for rezoning. At that
time, it was recommended that rezoning be postponed until the acquisition
issue was resolved. Negotiations have now been completed between Mr.
Altucker and the City. Since that issue has been resolved, it would
be proper to bring the matter of rezoning back before the Council.
Options available are that the Council could approve the Planning Commis-
sion recommendation to rezone, or refer the question of proper zoning back
to the Planning Commission for a new evaluation, recognizing the change in
circumstances introduced by the City's acquisition of the property. At
the time the Planning Commission formulated its recommendation, the
acquisition had not been completed, and a definite change in circumstances
has occurred in the intervening period which could affect the Commission's
recommendation. Staff recommends that the matter be referred back to the
Planning Commission.
CB 1919--Authorizing rezoning from County AGT to City R-2/PD for property
located within Willakenzie Island Area 2
Mr. Delay moved, seconded by Mrs. Smith, to refer Council Bill 1919
back to the Planning Commission.
