At the present time, the largest and most demanding commercial service aircraft operated at the <br />Airport is the Boeing MD-83 (D-III-4) operated by Allegiant Airlines, Bombardier Q400 (C-III-5) operated <br />by Horizon Airlines (a subsidiary of Alaska Airlines), and the Boeing 737-900 (D-III-3) operated by United. <br />In regard to AAC and ADG the MD-83 and B737-900 are the most demanding as D-III aircraft. For taxiway <br />design, the Q400 is the most demanding as a TDG 5 aircraft. <br /> <br />3 <br />In the future, the MD-83 is planned to be phased out of Allegiant Airlines fleet by 2020, and replaced by <br />A320 aircraft. The Bombardier Q400 is also being phased out by Horizon and replaced with Embraer E175 <br />jets. However, Alaska’s fleet transition is not expected to occur at EUG within the next 10 years, and <br />perhaps not within the planning period. The transition to E175 equipment is strategically designed to <br />4 <br />allow Alaska to better serve “long, thin routes” which are described as routes that are better served by jet <br />aircraft but lack the demand necessary to profitably fill the airline’s B737 mainline aircraft. Because the <br />vast majority of service from EUG by Alaska airlines are short haul routes, the Q400 is expected to remain <br />the equipment of choice. <br /> <br />With the discontinuation of MD-83 use by commercial airlines in the future, the existing and future critical <br />aircraft for EUG are identified as the Boeing 737-900 and Bombardier Q400.
