River Avenue Trans ortation Outreach Comments

68 July 18

ESC This is an urban area with lots of existing and potential walking and bicycling
opportunities. Bicycle lanes on both sides of the street all the way from River Road
to the connection with Division Avenue are critical, as are sidewalks. And the
sidewalks really must be provided on both sides of the street since there are
pedestrian generators on both sides. The pedestrian refuge islands located where
the paths meet River Avenue are also very important to provide a safe landing spot
for cyclists and pedestrians as they attempt to cross to the street (to get to the proper
bicycle lane for cyclists or to their destination for pedestrians). The pedestrian
refuge island at the VA clinic is needed for the large volume of clients who ride the
bus. They will not walk the extra distance to the River Road signal to cross River
Avenue-it is human nature and man of them are either elderl or ill.
ESC Sidewalks and bike lanes at least west of water treatment plant. River Avenue is an
important access to the Riverfront Trail system, so it's important to have good bicycle
and pedestrian access from River Road to the path access (at edge of water
treatment plant). This means bike lanes and sidewalks on both sides of the street
east of this oint; a sin Ie shared multi-use ath mi ht be ad uate.

67 July 18

PEDESTRIAN
# Mtng Date Group Comments
2005
69 June 23 PO Summary
- Sidewalk on north side to post office
- Combined path south side to existing path and then normal
sidewalk on south side to east end.
70 June 23 PO Discourage pedestrian crossing at west end near donut shop and McDonald' direct
to safer location.
71 June 23 PO Don't need sidewalks both sides.
72 June 23 PO Excessive to orovide oath beyond existinQ oath near plant.
73 June 23 PO How are opinions weighed?
