Downtown Redesign Principles -Retail Task Force <br />!n August of 189, the Eugene Downtown Commission appointed a special Retail Task <br />Force to work with city staff and .Downtown Eugene Incorporated to examine the factors <br />necessary for a successful, dawntawn retail sector. The ~fi~member Retail Task Farce was <br />intended to represent a broad spectrum of downtown interests and o inions, and included <br />. P <br />four property owner interests, four retailers, a member of the Friends of Downtown, a <br />neighborhood leader, a downtown attorney, a representative of Lane Transit District, a <br />Eugene Planning Commissioner, two Downtown Commissioners, and two City Councilors. <br />The Retail Task Force found successful dawntawn revitalization was dependent u on <br />several interrela f p <br />ted actors. Accordingly, the task farce issued a f nal report ~n dune ~ 990 <br />that contained detailed proposals concerning downtown tenant mix objectives, a ro e <br />. p P ~' <br />owners program for ach~evrng and promoting the tenant mix plan, .recommendations <br />concerning public policies for effectively supporting downtown development, and an <br />item~zat~on of specific pr~nc~ples concerning the redesign of the downtown physical <br />environment. <br />The task force believed it will .be necessary to improve dawntawn access in order to <br />successfully recruit and retain businesses in accordance with the desired tenant mix lan. <br />Accordin l th k p <br />. g y, etas force drafted the Downtown Redesign Principles to provide direction <br />for a redesign effort.
