<br /> <br />6) Eugene’s Thriving Climbing Community <br /> <br />A big part of the outdoor attraction to living in Eugene is the access to climbing. Many <br />rock climbing enthusiasts need to travel to the mountains to pursue their sport, but what <br />makes Eugene so special is the variety of climbing opportunities inside the city limits. <br /> <br /> <br />Sub-stories: <br />a. Skinner Butte Columns <br />Skinners Butte Columns provide exceptional climbing opportunities just minutes <br />from downtown. An exposed section of columnar basalt offers Eugene climbers 10 <br />-12 different routes with ratings as high as 5.10. The “Columns” also provide an <br />excellent progression of boulder and other top rope climbing opportunities. Any <br />rain free day in Eugene will draw climbers to this great outdoor resource. <br />Interview - Roger Bailey <br /> <br />b. Indoor Climbing Walls <br />University of Oregon climbing wall serves students and community members, open <br />climbs and classes. Eugene School District 4J has a climbing wall in each of their <br />8 middle schools which are used for PE classes to teach life long fitness activities, <br />and partnerships with the City of Eugene for after-school programs and evening <br />and weekend community climbs. Tree Climbing <br />A new activity in the world that has taken hold in Eugene community is tree <br />climbing. As part of Urban Outdoor Adventures – community climbs in community <br />parks. Serving afterschool programs, community drop-in classes, and special <br />events.
