<br /> <br />7) Eugene – At the Confluence of Two Prominent Rivers <br /> <br />River confluences are unique and special places. The confluence of the Willamette and <br />McKenzie is the juncture of two distinct rivers, each with their own history in shaping the local <br />community, and each providing amazing outdoor recreational pleasures. <br /> <br />Substories: <br />a. Willamette River <br />The Willamette River is the backbone of Oregon, creating the rich and fertile Willamette <br />Valley that connects the major population centers of the state. As it meanders into <br />Eugene, few people realize that it offers a beautiful canoe trail that can be paddled all the <br />way to Portland. The recently completed Willamette River Water Trail Guide, makes <br />access to the river easily accessible. Groups can paddle the length of the Willamette from <br />Eugene to Portland. McKenzie River <br />McKenzie Whitewater- <br />For outdoor enthusiasts, the McKenzie River is the more famous of the two. The lush <br />McKenzie River Valley is a gateway into some of Oregon’s most beautiful forest settings. <br />The steeper upper sections of the river provide world class kayaking opportunities, that <br />then give way to rafting Class 3 rapids. Fly fishing on <br />the McKenzie is at the top of the list for those in the know.
