The tenant of each dwelling unit sha11 be res- <br />ponsible far periodically testing the unit's detector. <br />The building owner or his designee shall not be respon- <br />sible if a tenant removes a battery from a detector, <br />c. Upon failure of the detector, the tenant sha11 <br />deliver a written notice of failure to the building owner <br />or his designee. <br />d. The owner shall replace or repair the defective <br />detector within ten ~1D} days of the date of notice. <br />3. In Group R, Division 3 occupancies every existing <br />dwelling that ~s being rented, leased, or is otherwise being <br />occupied far consideration, and each guest/sleeping roam in a <br />lodging house, shall be equipped with an approved detector. <br />Detectors within qualifying buildings shall be mounted an the <br />ceiling or wa11 at a point centrally located in each corridor <br />or area giving access to rooms used for sleeping purposes. <br />when activated, the detector shall sound an alarm audible in <br />sleeping rooms. The following shall apply to such detectors: <br />a. The building owner or his designee shall post <br />written instructions for the operation of the detector <br />within each dwelling unit. <br />b. The tenant of each dwelling unit shall be res- <br />ponsible for periodically testing the unit's detector. <br />The building owner or his designee shall not be respon- <br />sible if a tenant removes a battery from a detector. <br />c. The owner shall replace or repair the defective <br />detector within ten X14} days of the date of notice. <br />4. Na owner shall sell, transfer, or otherwise convey <br />a private dwelling without first installing smoke detectors <br />within the dwelling as prescribed in section 1210~a} as <br />amended. <br />~3} Section 1310 Fire Extin uishin Systems, is hereby amended to <br />read: <br />~a} Group SR, Division 1 occupancies: <br />1. General. Partial automatic sprinkler system is <br />required as specified. <br />a. Automatic sprinklers as specified in NFPA Stand- <br />ard 13, 1915 edition, using standard pipe suing and head <br />spacing in required location shall be installed in the <br />following area: <br />~1} exit corridors; <br />~~} exit stairways; <br />~3} inside room entrance corridor} doors or <br />other openings which face on interior exit ways. <br />Single~-head locations shall be no more than six and <br />no less than four feet inside doors except that <br />when side-wall sprinklers are used they shall be <br />
