A combi ned sprinkler and <br />wet standpipe system is where the water piping serves both <br />2-1/2 inch hose outlets for fire department use and outlets <br />~ spri nkl er heads} for automatic sprinklers, <br />~~1} Section 3$D3, Stand i es, is hereby amended by adding Subsec- <br />tion ~f} to read: <br />~f} Location of combination stand i e system. ~ combination <br />standpipe shall be provided for each stairway or smoke-proof enclo- <br />sure which extends from the top floor to the ground story in build- <br />ings four or more stories in height. Combination standpipe systems <br />shall have outlets so located that all portions of the building and <br />all roams and other spaces are within 20 feet of the nozzle <br />attached to 1Da feet of hose. <br />1. Size. Combination standpipe systems shall be not <br />less than four inches in diameter in buildings in which the <br />highest outlet is less than 75 feet from the fire department <br />connection and shall be not less than six inches in diameter <br />where the highest outlet is 75 feet or more above that connec- <br />tion. <br />~. Construction and Testi n Fitti ngs and connections <br />shall be of sufficient strength to withstand 3DD pounds of <br />water pressure per square inch when ready for service. All <br />combination standpipes shall be tested hydrostatically to <br />withstand such pressure for two hours, but in no case shall <br />the pressure be less than 50 pounds per square inch above <br />the maximum working pressure. <br />3. Riser shut-off valve and drain. Each individual <br />riser shall be equipped with an 05 and Y valve at its base <br />and an approved valve for draining. <br />4. Fire de artment connections. All four inch cambina- <br />tion standpipes shall be equipped with two-way fire department <br />connections. All six-inch combination standpipes shall be <br />equipped with four-way fire department connections. Combina- <br />tion standpipe systems with three or more standpipes shall be <br />provided with at least four-way fire department inlet connec- <br />tions. Each fire department connection shall be located on a <br />street front not less than 1$ inches nor more than four feet <br />above grade and shall be equipped with an approved straight- <br />way check valve and substantial plugs ar caps. All fire <br />department connections shall be inspected against mechanical <br />injury and be visible and accessible. The number of fire <br />department connections shall be the number that the fire de- <br />partment finds necessary for adequate fire protection. <br />5. Qutlets. Every standpipe shall be equipped with a <br />2-~/2" outlet with adapters far 1-~/~ inch hale not less than <br />two feet nor mare than four feet above the floor level at <br />
