Preferred Routes into Eugene with the .city's downtown area. A major <br />reconstruction and id ~ • • 1 <br />w ening protect was approved by Eugene s citizens <br />and funded by the Oregon Department of Transportation in 1984. This <br />project has been implemented in two phases, with the downtown phase, <br />from High Street to wash i ngton Street completed i n 198fi. The second <br />phase, from Vvashington Street to Garfield Street, is .scheduled to be <br />completed in 1987, Both phases have been designed to incorporate <br />landscape amenities, including street trees throughout the project and <br />special street lighting and paving treatments in the downtown section of <br />the project, Once this project is completed, other improvements that <br />recognize this corridor's role as a major link ~in the entrance corridor <br />system for Eugene are expected to come primarily in conjunction with <br />.landscape and buffer .requirements associated with adjacent private <br />development, though public projects for screening of any existing <br />unsightly views may be employed in strategic locations. <br />Q.
