€d} Systems shall be equipped with afire depart- <br />ment connection and a swing check valve on the supply <br />side. <br />EXCEPTION: The fire department connection may <br />be omitted when the water supply to the building is <br />capable of simultaneously operating the number of <br />sprinkler heads installed in the two largest separ- <br />ate areas which are directly interconnected by a <br />normally closed Boar, ar when waived by the chief <br />or his/her designee. <br />~i} Basements: ~Ihere automatic sprinklers are required to <br />protect only basements and where na other portion of the building <br />is to be equipped with automatic sprinklers, water supplies may <br />be served through the following arrangements: <br />1. If the basement is 10,000 square feet or less in <br />area, water service may be supplied by a two-inch I.D. pipe. <br />2. If the basement is less than 10,000 square feet but <br />mare than 5,000 square feet in area, at least one 2-1/2 inch <br />two-way si amese fire department connection placed on the <br />street front of the building i n an unobstructed position at <br />1 east one foot and not more than four feet above the adjacent <br />ground level shal l be provided and connected to the mai n <br />sprinkler system supply by means of 2-1/z inch I.D. pipe. <br />3. If the basement is 5,000 square feet ar less in area, <br />at least one ~-1/~ inch fire department connection mounted <br />not less than one foot and not more than four feet above the <br />adjacent ground level shall be provided and connected to the <br />main sprinkler system supply by means of a 2-1/2 inch I.D. <br />pipe. <br />4. Basements exceeding 10,000 square feet in area shall <br />be served by standard water supplies as prescribed in U.B.C. <br />Standard No. 38-1, or shall be subdivided into sections not <br />exceeding 10,000 square feet by one-hour fire-resistive occu- <br />pancy separations. <br />~j}. Limited Access Structures.
