tion standpipes shall be equipped with two-way fire department <br />connections. All six-inch combination standpipes shall be <br />equipped with four-way fire department connections. Combina- <br />t~on,standpipe systems with three or more standpipes sha11 be <br />provided with at least four-way fire department in]et connec- <br />tions. Each fire department connection shall be located on a <br />street front not less than 18 inches nor mare than four feet <br />above grade and shall be equipped with an approved strai ht- <br />wa check vale g <br />Y e and substantial plugs or caps. All fire de- <br />partment connections shall be inspected against mechanical <br />injury and be visible and accessible. The number of fire <br />department connections shall be the number that the fire de- <br />partment finds necessary for adequate fire protection. <br />~5} Outlets. Every standpipe shall be equipped with a <br />Z-1/Z" outlet with adapters for 1-1/Z inch hose not less than <br />two feet nor more than four feet above the floor level at each <br />story. All standpipes shall be equipped with a three-way <br />Z-1/Z inch outlet above the roof line when the roof has a <br />pitch of less than four inches in 1Z. Roof outlets are not <br />required for roofs with a pitch greater than four inches in <br />12. All outlets shall be installed so that a 1Z inch wrench <br />may be used in connecting the hose, with a wrench clearance <br />on all sides of the outlet. A standpipe located in a smoke- <br />praof enclosure shal 1 have an autl et i n a vesti bul a or balcony. <br />All such outlets shall be pravided with 1oD feet of 1-1/Z <br />inch, approved-fabric hose that is equipped with an adjustable <br />low-pressure spray nozzle that is approved by the fire de art- <br />ment. Ana roved p <br />pp hose and nozzle shall be installed in a <br />hose cabinet, and a dripcock or drain connection likewise <br />approved shall be located between the standpipe outlet and the <br />hale. Roof outlets and outlets in buildings or portions of <br />buildings equipped with a complete automatic fire extin uish- <br />in s ste g <br />g y ,m may not be pravided with hoses. In areas subject <br />to freezing, wet standpipe systems shall be protected from <br />freezing. <br />~fi} Si ns. An approved, durable sign with raised letters <br />at least one inch high shall be permanently attached to all <br />fire department connections and test connections and shall <br />read: "Combination standpipe and test connection." <br />~Zfi} Section 14.3Zo is added to the Uniform Fire Code to read; <br />Sec. 10.3Za - Fire Warnin S stems. <br />~a} Every existing and new structure or building with a Grou <br />R occu anc shall be p <br />p y provided with smoke detectors conforming to <br />UBC Standard 43-fi and the following: <br />1. In all Grou R Occu ancies detectors shall be located <br />in accordance with approved manufacturer's instructions. When <br />activated, detectors shall provide an alarm in the immediate <br />area located, dwelling unit, guest/sleeping room, corridors, <br />etc. In new construction, required detectors shall receive <br />primary power from the building's electrical wiring when such <br />w~ r~ ng ~ s served from a commercial source.
