Piping, valves, fittings <br />and related components appurtenant to or intended for the storage <br />of hazardous materials shall be designed and fabricated from <br />materials compatible with the material to be contained and shall <br />be of adequate strength and durability to withstand the pressure, <br />structural and seismic stress and exposure to which they may be <br />subjected. <br />~d} 5~.~• <br />1. In addition to the hazard identification signs re- <br />quired by Section 80.~04~e}, stationary tanks shall be <br />placarded with hazard identification signs as specified in <br />UFC Standard 79-3 for the special material contained. <br />2. Signs prohibiting smoking shall be provided in <br />storage areas and within 25 feet of outdoor storage areas. <br />3. Signs shall not be placed on moveable objects or <br />obscured at any time. <br />4. Signs shat 1 be durable, clearly vi si b1 a and i n <br />English as a primary language. <br />5. Signs shall be of a size, color and lettered in <br />conformance with nationally recognized standards. <br />fie} Securit , The storage of hazardous materials shall be <br />safeguarded with such protective facilities as public safety <br />requires. <br />~f} Ignition Sources. <br />1. Smoking shall not be permitted in any room where <br />hazardous materials are stored nor within 25 feet of outdoor <br />storage areas. <br />2. The use of open flames or high-temperature devices <br />in a manner which creates a hazardous condition shall not be <br />permitted. <br />EXCEPTION: Energy-consuming equipment listed for use <br />with the hazardous material stored. <br />fig} Protection from Li ht. Materials which are sensitive to <br />light sha11 be stored in containers designed to protect them from <br />such exposure. <br />~h} Shock Padding. Materials which are shock sensitive shall <br />be padded, suspended or otherwise protected against accidental <br />dislodgement and dislodgement during seismic activity. For seismic <br />requirements and the seismic zone in which the material is located, <br />see the Structural Specialty Cade. <br />~i} Shelf Storage. <br />-. - _ <br />I. Shelves shall be of substantial construction and <br />adequately braced. For seismic requirements and the seismic <br />zone in which the material is located, see the Structural <br />Specialty Code . <br />2. Shelves shall be provided with a lip ar guard when <br />used far the storage of individual containers. <br />EXCEPTION: Storage in hazardous materials storage <br />cabinets or laboratory furniture specifically designed <br />for such use. <br />3.
