liquids shall be separated into piles each not larger than <br />x,504 cubic feet. Aisle widths between piles shall be <br />not 1 ess than one hal f the height of the pi 1 e or ten feet, <br />whichever is greater. <br />B. The storage of highly toxic liquids which liberate <br />highly toxic vapors in the event of a spill or other acci- <br />dental discharge shall not be permitted outside of a <br />building unless effective collection and treatment systems <br />are provided. The treatment system shall comply with the <br />provisions of the Mechanical Code. <br />~c} S ecial Provisions - Breathin A aratus. Where highly <br />toxic solids or liquids are stored, a minimum of two self-contained <br />breathing apparatus shall be provided. The breathing apparatus <br />shall be suitable for use with the materials stored and shall be <br />located near the immediate area of storage in a location that pro- <br />vides safety to those expected to don the apparatus. A safe area <br />is one which is not likely to be immediately affected by the release <br />of hazardous vapors in the area of concern. A written Respiratory <br />Protection P1 an, personnel training, equipment inspection and main- <br />tenance, and record keeping shall be provided in accordance with <br />29 CFR 1910.134. <br />EXCEPTION. Storage areas or buildings where storage is con- <br />tinually limited to materials which can be demonstrated to <br />present no respiratory dangers. <br />Section 80.313 - Hazardous Materials, Radioactive Materials. <br />~a} Indoor Storage. <br />1. General~~y. Indoor storage of radioactive material s <br />shall be in accordance with the provisions of this subsection <br />and the general provisions specified in Section S0.3o1. <br />2. Exempt Amounts. When the amount of radioactive mater- <br />ial stored in ane~c~on~trol area exceeds that specified in Table <br />80.313-A, such storage shall be within a room or building con- <br />forming to the Structural Specialty Cade requirements for a <br />Group H, Division 1 Occupancy. <br />Table 80.313 -A <br />Condition Exempt Amount <br />Any storage condition ~1} Less than the Permit Amount <br />See Section 4.I01, Na. 40} <br />~2} Licensed, sealed sources for <br />instruments, calibration <br />devices and equipment. <br />3. Li uid-Ti ht Floor. In addition to the provisions of <br />Section 80.301~z}, floors of storage areas shall be of liquid- <br />tight construction. <br />4. Containment. Secondary containment shall be provided <br />in accordance with the provisions of Section 80.3011}4. <br />5. Detection. Areas used for the storage of radioactive <br />materials shall be provided with detection equipment suitable <br />for determining surface level contamination at levels that <br />would present a short term hazard condition.
