EXCEPTION: Automatic shutdown need not be pro- <br />vided for reactors utilized for the production <br />of toxic ar highly toxic gases when such reactors <br />are: <br />1. Operated at pressures less than 15 psig. <br />~. Constantly attended. <br />3. Provided with readily accessible emer- <br />gency shutoff valves. <br />vi. Smoke Detection. Smoke detection shall be <br />provided in accordance with the provisions of Section <br />80.3o3~a}10. <br />vii. Storage Conditions. The number of cylinders <br />contained in a single gas cabinet shall not exceed <br />three. <br />viii . Process Equ„i,,pment. Effluent from process <br />equipment which may be discharged to the atmosphere <br />shall be processed through an exhaust scrubber or <br />other processing system. Such systems shall comply <br />with the provisions of the Mechanical Cade for product <br />conveying ventilation systems. Exhaust vents ar <br />stacks shall be located in such a manner as to pre- <br />vent the re-entry of hazardous gases into the build- <br />ing or their entry into any adjacent building. <br />~c} Exterior Dis ensin and Use. <br />1. General. Exterior dispensing or use of hazardous <br />materials in either closed or open containers or systems shall <br />be in accordance with the provisions of this subsection and <br />the general provisions specified in Section 80.401. <br />2. Dis ensin . then liquids having a hazard ranking of <br />3 ar 4 in accordance with UFC Standard 19-3 are dispensed from <br />tanks or drums, dispensing shall only be by approved pumps <br />taking suction from the top. <br />3. Fire Extin uishin S stem. Flammable hazardous <br />materials dispensing ar use areas located within 50 feet of <br />either a storage area or building, and vehicle loading racks <br />where flammable hazardous materials are dispensed, shall be <br />protected by an approved automatic fire extinguishing system. <br />4. Ski 11, Control , Dra_i nape„__,and Containment. <br />A. Open Systems. Exterior areas where hazardous <br />material liquids are dispensed into containers exceeding <br />one ~1} gallon capacity or used in open containers or <br />systems exceeding five ~5} gallons capacity shall be pro- <br />vided with a means to control spills. Secondary contain- <br />ment shall be provided when the capacity of an individual <br />container exceeds 55 gallons or the aggregate capacity of <br />multiple containers exceeds 100 gallons. <br />B. Closed S stems. Exterior areas where hazardous <br />material liquids are used in individual tanks ar contain- <br />ers exceeding 55 gallons shall be provided with a means <br />to control spills. Secondary containment shall be pro- <br />vided if the aggregate of multiple tanks or containers <br />exceeds 1,000 gallons. <br />5. Clearance from Combustibles.
