DEVELOPMENT APPROACH (cont.) <br /> <br /> <br />These statements describe what is desired. They are a purpose for the Council’s actions. These <br />outcomes will positively affect relationships so that information exchange is facilitated, so that <br />goals and strategies can be designed. They create the reactive force that develops the new beliefs, <br /> <br />behaviors, strategies and actions of the participants. <br /> <br />14. Developing specific and measurable goals: <br />The Mayor and City Council are seeking to work <br />toward their adopted visions and goals. This activity allowed the participant to focus on three of <br />those goal areas: Economic Development, Neighborhood empowerment, Public Safety. Three <br />groups were formed, consisting of elected officials, City Manager and staff to explore specific <br />measurable goals for these areas. <br />The groups first answered these questions in small groups. <br /> <br />What is the evidence of a lack of Economic Development (Neighborhood Empowerment, <br />Public Safety) in the community? (On one side of the card. <br /> <br />What will be the evidence we accomplished Economic Development (Neighborhood <br />Empowerment, Public Safety) in the community? (On the other side of the card.) <br /> <br />When all had spoken, they recorded their individual views on 3 x 5 cards. This information was <br />developed into collective statements. This exploration results in goal statements that can be made <br />measurable. <br /> <br />20. Advice to the Mayor and City Manager: <br />Each participant recrded on a 3 x 5 card their answer <br />to the questions: <br /> <br />What is your advice to the Mayor and City Manager on the next steps to take to <br />accomplish their purposes? (On one side of the card.) <br /> <br />What are you willing to do to support the purpose? <br /> <br />This provides strategies and actions that can be initiated immediately to accomplish the purposes <br />of the group. <br /> <br />22. What I am willing to so personally: <br />This question allows each person to commit themselves <br /> <br /> to taking personal actions to foster their purposes. <br /> <br /> <br />3 <br />
