1873 <br />3. Group R, Division l Gccupancies with <br />a Group B, Division 1 park.~ng garage in the base- <br />ment or first floor shall comply with section <br />7Q2 ~a~.. <br />4. Attic space partitions and draft stops <br />shall comply with section .3245. <br />~2~ Subsection 1210{_a~ Fire darning Systems is hereby <br />amended to read; <br />~a~_ F_ire warning systems .~ Every existing and new <br />structure or buil~d~ng with a Group R occupancy shall be <br />provided with smoke detectors conforming to UBC Standard <br />43-6 and the following: <br />1. Tn Group R, General Gccupancies detectors <br />shall be located in accordance with approved manu- <br />facturers instructions. When activated detectors <br />shall provide an alarm in the immediate area lo- <br />cated, dwelling unit, guest/sleeping room, corri- <br />dors, etc. In new construction, required detectors <br />shall receive primary power from the building's <br />electrical wiring when such wiring is served from <br />a commercial source. Wiring shall be permanent <br />and without a disconnect switch other than those <br />required for over-current protection. Detectors <br />may be battery operated when installed in existing <br />buildings, in buildings without commercial power, <br />ar in buildings which undergo alteration, repair, <br />etc., and when such work does not involve the cre- <br />ation of additional una.ts or is a change of occu-~ <br />panty . <br />2. In Group R, Division 1 occupancies <br />every existing dwelling unit within an apartment <br />house, and every guest room designed or used for <br />sleeping purposes within a hotel or motel, shall <br />be equipped with an approved smoke detector. Dc- <br />tectors within apartment dwelling ~~nits shall be <br />mounted on ceiling or walls in each unit at a <br />point centrally located in the corridor or other <br />area with access to the rooms used for sleeping <br />purposes. In efficiency or studio apartments and <br />within hotel and motel guest units, the detectors <br />shall be centrally located on the ceiling or wall. <br />Detectors inside dwelling units or sleeping rooms, <br />if awall-mounted detector is used, shall not be <br />less than six inches or more than l2 inches from <br />the ceiling Where dwelling units and sleeping <br />rooms are an an upper level, additional detectors <br />shall be placed at an accessible location as <br />close as practical to the center of the ceiling <br />directly above the stairways. The owner of each <br />hotel or motel, or his designee, shall inspect <br />and service each detector every 12 months. A re- <br />cord shall be maintained for each detector list- <br />ing the date installed, dates inspected, and dates <br />serviced, if any. This record shall be available <br />4rdinar~ce -- 3 <br />
