18~~3 <br />a. Automatic sprinklers as specified <br />in NFPA Standard 13, 1978 edition, using <br />standard pipe sizing and head spacing in re~- <br />quired locations shall be installed in the <br />allowing areas: <br />i, exit corridors; <br />ii, exit stairways; <br />iii, inside room entrance ~corri- <br />dor~. doors or other openings which face <br />on interior exit ways. Single-head lo- <br />cations shall be no more than six and <br />no less than four feet inside doors ex- <br />cept that when side-wall sprinklers are <br />used they shall be located above the <br />opening. <br />iv. any other points necessary to <br />ensure the protection of the exit way. <br />b. A water supply shall be provided <br />sufficient to operate at least five sprinkler <br />heads simultaneously for a period of 2Q min- <br />utes at a residual pressure of not less than <br />15 pounds a square inch at the highest head <br />in the system. Such supply may originate <br />from <br />i, domestic water supply; <br />ii, separate connections to public <br />mains; <br />iii, an-site reservoirs or tanks, or <br />iv. wet standpipe lines. <br />c. wilding fire-alarm systems shall be <br />connected to a sprinkler system water-flow <br />device. <br />d. Systems shall be equipped with a <br />fire department connection and a swing check <br />valve on the supply side. <br />ExCEPTION: The fire department connec- <br />tion may be omitted when the water supply to <br />the building is capable of simultaneously <br />operating the number of sprinkler heads in-~ <br />stalled in the two largest separate areas <br />which are directly inter-connected by a nor- <br />mally closed door, or when waived by the <br />fire chief, <br />2. Full fire protection. When required by <br />other provisions of this code, complete automatic <br />fire-extinguishing systems and stand pipes shall <br />be installed as specified in Chapter 38. <br />~b~ Group SR, Division 2 occupancy. A complete <br />automatic fire extinguishing system and stand pipes <br />shall be installed as specified in chapter 3S only <br />when required by other provisions of this code. <br />Ordinance - 5 <br />
