September ll~ lgl6. <br /> <br /> Council Chambers, E~gene, OregOn, September ll, 1916. <br /> <br /> Council met in regular monthly session, and was called te order by <br /> <br />M. ayor Bell. Present Councilmen Parks, Polders, Peterson, Koppe, ~osher, <br /> <br />Goodpasture and Quimby, absent Devereaux. <br /> <br /> Nlnu~es o~ August 1Wth were read ar~ approved. <br /> <br /> Repo~ts of W. L. Cheshire, Health Offiee~, and of Y. H. Alexander, <br /> <br />Building Inspector, were read and filed. <br /> <br /> Recom~endation of the Street Committee that the matter of opening <br /> <br />Second Avenue be he~d in abeyance until such time as occasion may require the <br />working and pu~ting the street in better condition, except that the Committee <br />recommend the immediate removal of all obstructions thereon was on motion <br />ad opt e d. <br /> <br /> The Street Con~aittee recommended the purchase of another team of <br /> <br />horses and harness for the ~Street Department, and~.upon motion the recon~aenda- <br /> <br />tion was adopted and the Street Con~aittee authorized to make the purc_h~se. <br /> <br /> Recommendation of the Sewer Committee to make ~epairs at the outlet <br /> <br />of the trunk line sewer, and a Resolution authorizing the Sewer Committee to <br />procure materials to do the necessary work, the expense to be met by the <br />Trunk SeWe~ Fund was read and on motion adopted. <br /> <br /> The Sewer Co~,ittee reco~maended that a relief sewer be constructed on <br /> <br />THird Avenue from the Jefferson Street sewer to the alley'between 5i~coln <br /> <br />'aD.d Lawrence Streets, and a Resolution directing the Engineer to .prepare plans <br />and speeifio~tions for the construction of said sewer was read and on motion <br />adopted. <br /> <br /> The Sewer Committee recommended that the sewer on Cheshire Avenue <br /> <br />f~'om the alley between Lawrence Street and Washington Street to Jefferson <br />Street a distance of 500 feet be reconstructed and changed from a l0 inch to a <br />16 inch sewer, and a Resolution instructing the City Engineer to prepare plans <br />~nd specifications therefor was read and on motion adopted. <br /> <br /> A complaint as to the location of telephone pole and fence posts on <br /> <br />Eighth Avenue West, interfering with the entrance to Col. J. ~J. Harbougt~'s <br /> <br />garage was referred to the Street Committee with power to act. <br /> <br /> A letter from the Eugene Water Board advising the Council of the cost <br /> <br />of the installation of the ornamental lighting systems on Eighth Avenue from <br />Willamette Street to Pearl Street, $13~0.00, and on Seventh Avenue from Olive <br />Street to High Street, $2560.00 was read and on motion the Engineer was <br /> <br /> <br />
