MAY lk, 1917~ <br /> <br /> Council Ct%ambers, Eugene,. Oregon, May lk, 1917. <br /> <br /> Council met in regular monthly session, and was called to order by <br /> <br />.Mayor Peterson. Present Councilmen Parks, Koppe, Spencer, Devereaux, Mosher, <br />ami Spangler; absent Polders and Goodpasture. <br /> <br /> Minutes of Council proceedings of April 9tt~, 23rd, and May 7th <br /> <br />were read an! approved. <br /> <br /> ~. L. Wooley stated that there were two open ditches on Beech Street <br />between the railroad track am! Thirteenth Avenue that were dangerous to <br />children and made it difficult for his Mother to rent her property on 'this <br />street. ~atter was referred to the Street Committee to investigate. <br /> <br /> A body of proprietors of pool and billiard rooms appeared in person <br /> <br />and by Mr. Dan KellaheP, who spoke in their behalf, requesting the Counei1 <br />to repeal the Ordinance against keeping open of pool and billiard rooms on <br />Sun(~y. The request was referred to .the Judiciary and Police Committees <br />an! City Attorney for a report at the next meeting to the Council. <br /> <br /> The Police Committee recommended that tke Recorder publish a notice <br /> calling for the payment of dog licenses, and that the police officers be in- <br /> structed to t~ke up and impound dogs running at large after June 1st, contrary <br /> to the 0rdlnanee, a~ that the police in impounding such dog be allowed $1.00 <br /> as extr~ pay for each dog upon which the license: fee and costs are subsequently <br /> paid, but nothing if the dog is destroyed. On motion the recommendation was <br /> adopted. <br /> <br /> Councilman Devereaux of the ~inanee Com~ttee reported that the Committee <br /> had awarded the contract for 125 cords of wood to the Williams ~el Co. at <br /> $~.29 per cord. Motion was made that the report be accepted and a con- <br /> tract entered into. Motion was seconded and carried. <br /> <br /> The Finance Committee also asked authority to employ two men at <br /> <br /> ,~5.00 per day each to audit the Treasurer's book~, which was on motion granted. <br /> <br /> The Fire & Water Committee recommended that the request of the School <br /> Board for street lights at the High School Building be granted, and the Water <br /> Board requested to install them. Recommendation was on motion adopted. <br /> <br /> Motion was made, seconded and carried that the City Officers be in- <br />.strutted to enforce the junk dealers 0rdinanee. <br /> <br /> A request'of petltion~ for the paving of Ferry Street that the <br /> <br /> petition presented on April 23rd be withdrawn was &~anted, whereupon a new pe- <br /> tition for the pavin~ of Ferry Street from Eighth Street north to the Pailroad,~ <br /> <br /> <br />
