Council Chambers, Eugene, Oregon, M~y 28, 1917. <br /> <br /> Council met p~mrsu~nt to adjournment of May llith, and was called to order <br />by Mayor Peterson. Present Councilmen Parks, Koppe, Spencer, Devereaux, <br />Mosher, Goodpasture and SPongier; absent Polde~s~1 <br /> <br /> Dean H&yes mhd G. H. ~feMorran~mppeared before the' Council in behalf <br /> <br />of the lo~i Red ~ross, mski~ the privilege of usl~ the streets around the <br />parks fo~ carnival purposes f~om July 31st to August %th inclusive. <br /> <br />They stated that partied ar~a~ements had been ma.de with the Foley-Burke <br />~usemen~ Co. for 'this date; the Red Cross to be benefited by ~ portion of <br />the ~eceipts, and asked that the ConneD1 relieve them from the p~yment of <br />license if ~possible. .M~ttem was referred to the Police and ~ingnce Committees <br />wi~h powe~ to ~et. <br /> <br /> ~ The Street Co~lttee reco~ended that the petition for paving Ferry <br />Street from Eighth Stree$ north to the railroad right-of-wmy be grmnted. <br />Motion was ~de, seconded and ca,tied to adopt the reco~endation. <br /> <br /> The Street Co~iStee recom~ended that the proposition of the Clark & <br />I[enery Construction Co. for pmving re~i~s of various streets, providi~ fo~ <br />the s~le of ~sp~lbie mixt~e ~t $7.50 per ton, f~shi~ of tools and <br />mssist~nts as stated in their letter be accepted. Motion was m~de, seconded <br />and carried ~o adop~ the reeo~end~tion. <br /> <br /> The Police ~nd Judiciary Committees recommended that the ~equest of the <br />pool ~oom p~-op~ieto~s for repeal of the 0~dinmnce p~ohibiting Sund~y opermtion <br />of these est~blis~ents be denied. Remarks on the mmbte~ were made by ~. <br />Wallace' and ~. Hutbon, two propriebors of pool ~ooms; miter which motion was <br />m~de, seconded ~nd c~rried to adopb the ~eco~mend~tion of the ComJaittees. <br />M~. V~llaee asked the Council to do something to reduce the bowll~ ~lley <br />license, mhd this ~te~ was referred to the .Finance Co~i~tee. <br /> <br /> Dean S~nde~son msked the Council to macadamize Potter Street f~om 2~th <br /> Street to the College Cmmpus in 0it~ Outlook Addition. The request was ~e- <br /> fe~ed to the Street Oo~ittee. <br /> <br /> A petibion fo~ ~ street light on Jefferson Street mt the ~mzon Ditch was <br /> re~d and ordered referred to the W~ter Board. <br /> <br /> A petition fo~ the drminage of surface water mt l~th Avenue and <br /> <br />Beech Street into the ~te Street storm sewer was referred to the Street <br />Oo~ibtee. <br /> <br /> <br />
