~JUNE 25, 1917. <br /> <br /> Council Chambers, Eugene, Oregon, June 25, 1917. <br /> <br /> Council met pursuant to,adjournment of June llth, and was called to <br />order by Mayor~Peterson. Present Councilmen Parks, Koppe, Spencer, Deverea~x, <br />Mosher, Goodpasture and Spangler; absent Polders. <br /> <br /> The request ~of the Fourth of July Committee for concessions was pre- <br />sented,~ and the Council directed that the usual Fourth of July concessions <br /> <br />be granted to the Fourth of July. Committee, under the control of the Street <br /> <br />Committee, with the understanding thmt the same should not interfere with <br /> <br />the ref~larly licensed street vendors. <br /> <br /> Request of Nm. Barclay that the police ~hone near their photograph <br /> <br />shop be moved so that they~can erect a display window was referred to the Police <br />Oommittee with power to act. . <br /> <br /> M, Sohwarzsohild and ~. Wlsw~ll, representing safe cabinets, explained <br />the merits of their cabinet with a view to furnishing the City E~ineer's <br />office, and the matter was referred to the Finance Committee for investigation. <br /> <br /> Report of Mess~s. Howe & Hamlin'ontheir~ audit of the Treasurer's <br /> <br />Office wss presented, and referred to the Finance Committee. <br /> <br /> Bids of John Shewry and Guy F. _Pyle for the paving of Ferry Street <br /> <br />from Eighth. Avenue'north to the railroad were opened and read, and at this <br />time a written ~bJection of N~s. Churchill 'against the paving of said street <br />was .read. Bids were referred to the Street Committee, and Councilman <br />Goodpasture reported that the Street Committee found that the bid of John <br />Shew~y was the lowest and. best bid, and moved thmt the Council determines that <br />the objection of Mrs. Churchill be overruled, and that no remonstrance con- <br />raining a m~jori~y of property owners or of property abutting said improvement <br />has been filed, and that the contract be awarded to John Shew~y in accordance <br />with his bid, and thmt the M~yor and Recorder be instructed to enter into <br />the contract in behalf of the City, and that N~. Pyle's check be returned. <br />Motion was.seconded and carried. <br /> <br /> At this time Councilman Devereaux was excused from the meeting. <br /> <br /> The following bills were presented by the Finance Committee for p~yment <br />on the General Fund: J.D. Hamlin $37.50, Lloyd Howe $~0.00 and Williams <br />Fuel Co. $536.25. Motion was made and seconded that said bills be allowed <br />and warrants drawn in pa~ment of s~me. The ayes and n~ys were called; Council- <br />men voting mye 6, n~y none; absent Polders and Devereaux. Motion was <br />elated carried and so ordered. <br /> <br /> <br />
