278 <br /> <br />JANUARY 28, 1~18. <br /> <br /> Council Chambers, Rk~3ene, Oregon, January 28, 1918. <br /> <br /> Council met pursuant to adjournment of January l[~th, and was called <br /> <br />to order by Nayo~ Peterson. Present Councilmen Polders, Parks, Koppe <br /> <br />Spencer, Nosher and Goodpastu~e; absent Deverea~ and Spangler. <br /> <br /> Mr. Darwin Bristow and Dr. Beardsley, representi~ the Chamber of <br />Co~eree, appeared before the Council eo~endi~ the City for its previous <br />work on cleanup week, and ~.ged the continuance of the annual cleanup week. <br />They also uPged the necessity of the City providing a rest room for the com- <br />fort and convenience of the public and the co,try people in the City, and <br />suggested the possibility of establishing such a ~est ~oom in the City Hall. <br />This matter was referred to the Health Committee. <br /> <br /> At this time Councilman Devereaux appeared in Council. <br /> <br /> Councilman Nosher of the Plre & Water Committee recommended that the <br />petition of Sam Rugh and others for a light on South Willamette Street be- <br />tween 22nd and 2kth Streets be denied as there are ah'eady ll~ts installed <br />at 22nd and 2kth Streets. On motion seconded and carried the report was <br />adopted and the Street Committee instructed to investigate the condition of <br />the ditch on South Willamette Street at this point. <br /> <br /> Councilman Nosher fo~ the Fl~e & W~ter Co~ittee also reco~ended <br /> <br />t~t the petition for a street light on Jefferson Street at the ~.azon ditch <br />be ~anted, and that the request of S. M. Calkins to construct a pape~ ~oof <br />on the building between PeaP1 and Park Streets south of the Warnoek property <br /> <br />be g~anted. Motion was made, seco~ed and carried to adopt the reco~.~endation. <br /> At this time Co~eilman Spa~ler appeared In Council. <br /> <br /> The Finance Committee by Co~eilman Polders reeom~ended that tl%e <br /> <br />Wmter Board be ~equested to fuPDish itemized bills eove~i~ amours due for <br />wate~ and light, and also a report of the ~blie Utilities Commission in the <br />matter of regulating the rates for water and light. On motion seconded and <br />carried the reeo~aendation was adopted. <br /> <br /> Aa Ordinance levyl~ assessments for the improvement of ~entieth <br /> <br /> Avenue West from Willamette Street to Olive Street was read the second time <br /> and objections called for and none heard 'except the communication f~om <br /> <br /> Korine Hartog, which was read. It appeaPed that this objection was an object- <br /> <br /> ion to the making of the improvement ~ather than an objection to the assess- <br />[ment itself, and a motion was made and seconded that the Council finds that <br /> <br /> <br />
