A petition was received to grade and gravel the alley running from 18th <br />to !9th Avenues, between Willamette and Olive Streets. Such petition was <br />referred to the Street Committee amd it recommended such petition be granted, <br />Oh motion 'suCh report was adopted. <br /> <br /> A petition was filed by the First Investment amd Loan Co. to vacate <br />Block 14,15,16,17, and 18, of Sladde~m's 4th Addition to the city anti certain <br />streets and alleys adJacent thereto. Notices were directed to be posted by <br />the petl~ imers of the t~me of hearing thereo~. <br /> <br /> A petition was .filed by Abe Bangs et.al, calling, attention to the fact <br />a building has been built in the fire limits by C F C~bell which building <br />was constructed contrary te the ordinance for the construction of buildings <br />in the fire limits and asking such b,~ilding be ordered rased. Such matter <br />was discussed. Moved by Williamson and seconded by Hendershott the Ordinance <br />relating thereto be enforced. Such motion was ~lopted. <br /> <br /> A petition was f i led to re-construct the sewer on East 16th Avenue <br />between High and ~11~1 Sis. Suc~{ matter was referred to the Sewer Committee. <br /> <br /> A letter was read from the Western Or~ gon Conference Co. asking settle- <br />ment for a portion of a lot owned by it used in paving 22ndAvenue. Such <br />matter was referred to the City Attorney. <br /> <br /> A letter was received from Harris, Smith and Bryson inclosing a deed from <br />Eugene Terminal Co. a corporation,' to the city conveying certain lands to th~ <br />city acquired in connection with the Southern Pacific Terminals located in Eu- <br />gene, and billed the city for $5000.00 as the bafanoe claimed due under the <br />E~ene Terminal Company's ,ontract with the city. Moved amd seconded such <br />bill be paid less the amount ,f $400.00 paid Miller in connection therewith. <br />The roll ,~as called, All present voted 'aye" absent and not voting Washburne. <br /> <br /> The city Attorney spoke on the necessity of enforcing payment of back <br />liens and stated a competent person should be employed for a time in the <br />Treasurers Office to check back liens to turn to him for collection, and <br />further stated he had such a person i6 mind if the council see fit to order <br />such work done. On motion it was unanimously ordered the City Attorney employ <br />a person for such purpose. <br /> <br /> The City Engineer was directed to prepare, plans and Specifications for <br />the paving of Charnelton Street from 13th to 17th Avenues providing the property <br />~wners ther~ on indemnify the city against acquiring any lots thereon by <br />reason of some lots not having sufficient, assessed valuation. <br /> <br /> The City Engineer was directed to prepare plans and specifications for the <br />paving of Olive Street from 15th to 17th Avenues providing ~he property owners <br />thereon indemnify the city against acquiring' any lots thereon by re~on of some <br />lots not having a sufficient assessed valuation. <br /> <br /> Chairman Willla~son of the Sewer Committee spoke on the ~mazon and recom- <br />mended the city slash the brush thereon west of Ohaallers Street for a sufflcien~ <br />distance to further clear the channel. On motion the Sewer Committee was <br /> authorized to see such improvement is made. <br /> <br /> The Sewer Committee repo~-' ted on the claim of E:S. Swanson for damages for <br />use of outlet sewer at 1877 Harris Street by another~ connected under direction <br />~f the city at the time 19th Avenue was paved and recommended the city pay <br />$1~.75 which is one half of price of connection and pipe across the street. <br />On motion such report was adopted. <br /> <br /> The Street Committee recommended the Recorder be instructed to write the <br />petitioners for pavement on 23rd Avenue east that the City will grade such <br />street to subgrade and macadamize the sane if they so petition.
