The utilization and retention of natural vegetation, natural water <br />features, drainageways and landscaping. shall be strongly encouraged <br />as part of all urban developments'. <br />3. The pl ant i nq of street trees shal be encouraged. <br />4. Public and_ private facilities shall be designed and located in .a <br />manner that preserves and enhances desirable features of local and <br />neighborhood areas and promotes their sense of ident <br />5. Carefully develop sites that provide visual diversity to the urban <br />area and optimize their visual and personal accessibility to resi- <br />dents. <br />516 Local jurisdictions shall carefully evaluate their development <br />regulations to ensure ' that they .adequately account for env ron- <br />mental design consi derat ions. such as, but not l to, si <br />p l a n n i n g and landscaping of developments. <br />7. The development of urban design elements as part of local and <br />refinement plans *sh al l be encouraged. <br />8. Local governments should consider developing design standards to <br />ensure compatibility with existing development and the l i v a b i l i t y <br />of major medium and high density residential developments when <br />located i n areas otherwise characterized by lower den s i ty. <br />III -E -3 <br />
