i b�Oob <br />2. Citizens' advisory committees have been established to provide the <br />citizens' perspective on a variety of metropolitan -wide planning <br />and related issues. <br />3. There is presently no- readily i d e n t i f i a b l e and adopted compre- <br />hensive metropolitan -wide citizen involvement program. <br />4. Spr i ng.f i e l d , Lane County and Eugene each has a committee for c i t i - <br />z e n involvement i n the planning process. There are also several <br />citizen advisory committees involved with individual components of <br />the process such as housing and transportation planning. <br />5. MAPAC has been designated as the citizen organization for devel- <br />oping and conducting a citizen involvement program for the Metro- <br />politan Plan upd ate process. <br />60 The governing bodies have furthered the i r efforts at citizen in- <br />vol vement through the development and support of community neigh- <br />borhood organizations, community surveys, citizen involvement <br />advisory committees and various media techniques for-citizen in- <br />vo l vement and education . <br />7. How effective the General Plan will be depends to .a large extent <br />upon how much sup - port is provided by the metropolitan area resi- <br />dents in seeing that the Plan is implemented. <br />8. Successful plan development and implementation i dependent on a <br />joint effort of ci tizens, publ and semi - public agencies and <br />elected officials. <br />9. Benefits of an ongoing metropolitan area planning advisory com- <br />mittee to prov -ide citizen perspective include an accumulation of <br />knowledge and experience in the planning process - <br />Goal <br />Continue to develop, maintain, an -d refine programs . and procedures <br />that maximize the opportunity for meaningful, ongoing citizen <br />involvement i n the community's planning and planning implementation <br />processes consistent with mandatory statewide planning standards. <br />nh riPrt i vPS <br />1. Promote and strengthen communication and coordinat among various <br />c.i t i ze'n s' organizations, bus iness, industrial and other groups in <br />the community., and between these groups and government, <br />2.
