Leave Without Pay While on Military Leave <br />Leave without pay is allowed in accordance with State and Federal law for employees <br />who enter military service for extended periods of duty. City policy requires employees <br />going on leave without pay to use all appropriate personal leave before LWOP can <br />begin. However, employees who are called up for military duty have the following <br />options: <br />A. personal leave accrual pay off (vacation, holiday, comp time) before going on <br />military duty, subject to the Executive Manager's approval and the department's <br />ability to pay; or <br />B. run out of personal leave accruals as allowed under <br />C. leave some or all of personal leave accruals unused, <br />hours will be available when the employee returns to <br />The employee called up for military duty must, l <br />choice of leave option prior to leaving for duty If <br />will remain intact while the employee is on leave. <br />Benefits While on Military Leave without Pay <br />Employees on military leave withoGt`paynaay elect to con <br />coverage through the City on a- s basis for up to 24 <br />Federal health care continuation lave <br />Section 10.9; or <br />the personal leave <br />.. However, upon <br />returning from military leave, employees will be credited their military leave time for the <br />purposes of determining their vacation accrual rate or any other affected benefit. The <br />sick leave balance the employee had at the time s /he began their military leave will be <br />reinstated. <br />When an employee is a PERS /OPSRP member and exercises his /her reemployment <br />rights, the City will make retroactive contributions to the member's Individual Account <br />Program (IAP) Account in the amount that would have been paid during the member's <br />period of military service. <br />
