Policy Title: Leave of Absence without Pay (LWOP) <br />Purpose: To provide employees with unpaid time away %ft work. <br />Scope: Applies to all regular City employees; representedil �� ees should refer to <br />the appropriate labor agreement I�Ih, "Illlllllli . <br />Policy Statement: The City provides employeft"t}i'rlM!unpaid Move of ence in <br />circumstances such as illness, educational opportu is; pane tat responsibilities, and <br />family illness. <br />Policy Procedure: Employees maybbe` granted a leave ofi�`absence without pay <br />(LWOP) for up to 12 months. Reasons foY ' 11_ 1 , OP include, bi1�t not limited to: illness, <br />educational opportunities, parer kt onsi ilities arising from birth or adoption, and <br />family illness. Leave of absence A ;not be granted if an employee has accepted <br />regular on going employment with anb( I ' i employer. <br />Leave without pay is normally granted onljI� 0N (he employee has exhausted all <br />appropriate accrdl 'eave. However, divisig managers may recommend an exception <br />I N . to exhausting ac <br />l 11 11 i ve before beginning LWOP. All exceptions must be reviewed <br />and approved by al ,� es. <br />When an employee Tunable to uvork his/her regular schedule, has exhausted all <br />appropriate leave bala and has coded LWOP for more than 15 calendar days, the <br />employee's standard 1041 � ill be adjusted to reflect their reduced schedule. <br />Request Procedures <br />Requests for a leave of absence without pay must be submitted in writing to the <br />employee's supervisor and must establish justification for the leave.
