When taking unanticipated or emergency leave, an eligible employee must give oral or <br />written notice as soon as is practicable, which may be given by any other person on <br />behalf of the employee taking the leave. <br />Designating Leave <br />When supervisors learn of an employee's need for crime victim leave, they should <br />promptly contact the Employee Benefits Program, Risk Services, who will designate <br />qualifying leave and send the applicable Family & Medical Leave Notice to the <br />employee, as well as a copy to the supervisor. <br />Certification <br />The employer may require certification to support the need leave. The employee is <br />required to provide the certification within a reasonable tim receiving the <br />employer's request. Vacation and sick leave accruals continue during any portion of the <br />leave which is paid <br />Participation in the Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Program continues as usual during <br />a paid leave. Employees may elect to continue participation in the FSA Program during <br />unpaid crime victims leave by pre - paying or remitting the required contributions. <br />Employees may also elect to suspend participation until they return from leave. <br />
