Compensatory Time Accrual APPM Section 5.6. f4 (Revised 09116102)
FLSA - covered employees may choose either overtime payment or compensatory time accrual as payment for
any overtime worked.
Compensatory time may not accrue beyond eighty (80) hours (112 hours for 56 hour /shift employees), except in
emergency situations and with executive manager approval. When accrual is allowed to exceed eighty (80) hours
(112 for 56 hour /shift employees), the employee must use or be paid for the excess accrual within 12 months.
Accrued comp time is compensable upon termination.
Bargaining unit contracts may vary from this policy. The contract language prevails and must be checked for
accrual limitations and other stipulations
Management Vacation APPM Section 5.6. 12 (Revised 09130104)
Exempt employees often work more than their scheduled hours to do what is necessary to get theirjob done. In
acknowledgment of this working condition, the City has established policies and benefits to partially compensate
exempt employees for this extra work requirement. The benefits that are provided are additional vacation time and
under limited circumstances, flexible scheduling, additional compensatory time off, or overtime pay at 1.5:1 or 1:1
depending on the working conditions. This policy does not attempt to provide full compensation for all hours
worked in excess of the 40 hour work week.
The Management Vacation benefit is in addition to your regular vacation benefit. Full -time employees are eligible
for 5, 7, or 10 days of exempt vacation per year. Part -time employees receive a pro -rated management vacation
benefit based on their regular scheduled work hours.
If you are a supervisor who is required to work side by side with a crew or a work group that is eligible for 1:1.5
overtime pay, you receive five exempt vacation days per year. In addition, you are eligible for overtime pay or
compensatory time off at 1:1.5 whenever you are working side by side with a work group receiving 1:1.5 pay and
the work hours are outside the supervisor's regular work shift.
Certain exempt police and fire supervisory classifications are eligible for five days of management vacation per
year plus paid overtime at 1:1.5. This overtime benefit is to be granted when the supervisor must be available for
team - related duties such as crime investigations and responding to emergencies; administrative supervisory duties
and preparing for shifts or briefings are accounted for with the exempt vacation benefit.
Employees who fill professional positions are eligible for a management vacation benefit of seven (7) days per
year.
Employees who fill managerial positions are eligible for a management vacation benefit of ten days per year.
Management Vacation Accrual APPM Section 5.96.13 (Revised 09130104)
Management vacation may be used just like regular vacation time, after 6 months of employment. If exempt
employees resign after the six months of employment, any unused management vacation accrual will be paid off.
Management vacation accruals may be paid if requested in writing by an employee and approved by the Executive
Manager. Management vacation payoff requests will be considered if an employee would otherwise lose
accumulated vacation, has generally used regular vacation time, or has good reasons for requesting a payoff,
such as the funding of vacation activities.
Management vacation payoff requests are limited to one payoff per employee per fiscal year. The payoff is limited
to the maximum monetary equivalent of one fiscal year's management vacation accrual, dependent on the
availability of funds. Employees are eligible for payoff after 6 months of employment.
15
