RESOURCES
Career Development Assistance Pro am
AND OPPORTUN[' US
Career Counseling The City's EAP is available to counsel or assist employees
with identifying career direction/goals, and with designing
a .Career Development Plan. This is a confidential
program available to employees at no cost. Contact the
FMRS Benefits staff or the AFSCME local office to find
the current provider of this service.
Educational Aid The City has adopted an educational aid policy (APPM 3-
228.1) which may allow a reimbursement for tuition
(books and supplies are not covered). The amount of
assistance received is determined by the availability of
budgeted fiords in each department. The amount of aid
also depends on how the course relates to the employee's
job function, departmental employee usage, and the
balancing of educational reimbursement with other training
needs in the department. Employees should contact their
supervisors for additional information on how to apply for
reimbursement.
Classification Manuals The manuals include individual descriptions and minimum
qualifications for all current City classifications. The class
specifications also indicate any license, certification,
specific background, or-education required for the
position. Classification manuals are available from office
supervisors in each division or from HRRS/R.ecruitment &
Selection.
Job Postings Information is available in HRRS about City positions and
employment opportunities in other public agencies. In
addition, City positions are posted on department bulletin
boards and on the City's web page.
"I have a Career Development Plan to help in preparing me for a supervisory /management
position with the City. I am very pleased with the way everyone has helped me out in getting
a better education."
Frank Casebolt, Public Works Department
(Mbooklet 11/99)
