Career
._&_ 11'
Informational Interviews People in positions doing the type of work identified in an
employee's Career Development Plan are valuable
contacts. Through an informational interview or job
shadow, an employee may find out more about the nature
of the work and the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed
to perform successfully in the job. Contacts within the
departments can be identified by HRRS staff. For more
information about information interviewing check
resources in the career development library.
Assessment Resources HRRS has a number of resources available to help
employees identify their job interests. Examples include
Career Information System programs, Skills, Myers-
Briggs Type Indicator, and the Career Assessment Guide.
Career Development Library HRRS has books and videos available in a lending library
on such topics as career exploration, interview skills,
resume writing, and job searching.
OPPORTUNrMS
Career Development Contacts Contacts offer employees an informal opportunity to learn
about the CDAP prior to contacting a supervisor or HRRS
staff. Contacts provide general program information to
employees and make referrals to HRRS staff; the EAP,
and/or other employees who have accessed the program.
City Sponsored Training The Coordinated Training Program Calendar lists in -house
training opportunities for all City employees. The
calendar is easy to access online, through a division's
administrative office, or by contacting HR.RS/Performance
& Development. Examples of classes include conflict
management, listening skills, _ and meeting skills.
Individual departments may also provide various training
opportunities, particularly in technical skills, for their
employees. Supervisory approval is required to attend
training through the Coordinated Training Program or a
training sponsored by another department.
(CDbooklet 11199)
P]
