Career
VOW
1"i'_ ► M_
External Training/Workshops Training or workshops provided or sponsored by outside
sources generally require pre - registration and a fee.
Employees must have supervisory approval to attend
training and may request the City pay the registration fee.
Employees should consult with their supervisor about their
department's or division's process for enrolling in external
training.
Task Teams /Committees All City employees are eligible to serve on task teams and
committees. Participation is encouraged as a means to
develop new skills, interact with other employees, and
gain broader knowledge of the organization. Examples
include departmental Safety, Recognition/Award, and
Diversity Committees.
Professional Some employees are encouraged to maintain professional
Or memberships and certifications in order to stay current in
their fields. Depending on the employees departmental
budget, membership fees may be paid for by the
department, but in many cases the employee is responsible
for these fees. Some organizations offer a reduced fee for
individuals or for student memberships. These
organizations may also offer local workshops or
conferences which non - members may attend. Supervisory
approval is needed for membership reimbursement and
attendance at conferences scheduled during normal
working hours.
Flex -Time Flex -time arrangements are guided by labor contract
provisions and the ability of a work unit to accommodate
flex -time requests. Flex -time may sometimes be arranged
when an employee has a personal need to work a schedule
other than the one originally assigned. Supervisors must
approve flex -time schedules.
(Mbooklet 11194)
