Career <br />I <br />Cross - Training Cross - training provides the opportunity for employees to <br />learn new skills by taking on additional duties for a limited <br />period of time (i.e. covering for vacation, etc.). Cross - <br />training can be ongoing, and generally takes place between <br />two employees within their home department. Cross - <br />tr aining opportunities are arranged and approved by <br />supervisors. <br />Acting -in- Capacity (AIC) /Special AIC opportunities generally occur when positions are <br />Assignments temporarily vacant (i.e. medical, educational, travel, <br />pregnancy, etc.). For AIC assignments, an employee is <br />expected to meet the .minimum qualifications required to <br />perform the higher classification job and to assume the <br />majority of the duties of the position. <br />Charitable Campaign - United Way One City employee is usually assigned each year to <br />Loaned Executive represent the City for a period of approximately three <br />months in the United Way's Charitable Campaign. This is <br />an opportunity to learn a variety of new skills such as <br />coordinating large group meetings or giving presentations <br />to other agencies in the Eugene - Springfield metro area. <br />At the end of the campaign, the employee returns to <br />his/her previous City position. <br />Career Development Assignments The City has a Career Development Assignment policy <br />(APPM 3- 123.4) that provides opportunities for <br />employees to.gain knowledge, skills, and abilities that <br />support their career development plans.
