This policy mandates ethical employee use of office equipment and technology. It <br />encourages use that enhances employee productivity, confirms that electronic <br />communications used in the conduct of government are generally considered public <br />records, and prohibits inappropriate use. <br />It is important to note that unauthorized use of the City's computer system has the <br />potential for bypassing or damaging the computer system and the City security <br />protocols by introducing viruses into the City's computer network. Each employee <br />contributes to the security of the City computer system by adhering to City computer <br />usage policies. Employees should remember that they should use their working hours <br />effectively to get their jobs done, and the availability of personal use of City equipment <br />should not interfere in employee productivity. pi" <br />All City employees and elected officials are subject to the 0 1 h(Government <br />Standards and Practices Laws. Inappropriate <br />or offensive messages, such as those including racial or sexual slurs or threats, are <br />prohibited. <br />City equipment is not to be used for outside business ventures or to solicit for political, <br />religious, and other organizational causes. <br />Violation of City policy regarding the use of City electronic office equipment and <br />technology may result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal. <br />No Right to Privacy <br />All computer applications, programs, and information created or stored by employees <br />on City -owned information systems are City property. Employees shall have no <br />expectation of personal privacy in the use of the City's information technologies. <br />
