Policy Procedure: <br />Use of Cellular Phones <br />State of Oregon law restricts the use of cell phones while operating a motor vehicle on <br />highway, unless a hands -free device is used. Although the law provides for certain <br />exceptions, including operation of a motor vehicle in the scope of a person's <br />employment, City employees should avoid using a cellular phone while operating City <br />vehicles or equipment on public roads, or when driving a personal vehicle while <br />conducting City business. Suspend conj" s lbns IM' 06vy traffic or hazardous conditions or situations. <br />Use of City -Owned Vehicles <br />va <br />City vehicles shall be usifor City business related purposes only. Family members <br />may not be transported iWCity vehicles unless pursuant to a City - sponsored ride -a -long <br />program, after the appropriate release of liability form is signed. <br />Use of Personal Vehicles <br />The use of personally owned vehicles for City business purposes is discouraged when a <br />City -owned vehicle is available. If an employee uses his/her own vehicle for City <br />business, he/she must have prior supervisory approval and carry proof of automobile <br />liability insurance. Personal auto insurance is primary insurance should an employee <br />be involved in an accident in his /her own vehicle. The employee should contact his /her <br />personal auto insurance agent for further instruction. The City's self - insured automobile <br />liability coverage will be secondary to any other existing insurance. <br />
