Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
Instead of making it a hassle for everyone and costing consumers more, you need to address the
things that are not easily recycled like plastic lids, foil, Styrofoam, batteries etc. I was appalled
when I moved back to Eugene and saw what is not being recycled by the trash companies.
California has Eugene beat by a mile. I was gone from Eugene for 12 years. Lots of changes
here, none for the better.
The bigger plastic bags e.g., Toys R Us, Penneys, Macys, Target may have less opportunities to
re-use but we like the Duck Store bags for sending to friends.
Please, please ban the plastic carryout bag. I have family in Europe who live in communities
where the plastic carryout bag was banned and the community in all of these places adapted
quickly and easily to the change. The lack of loose plastic bags flying around getting caught in
alleys, public squares, and gutters was a huge bonus. The plastic carryout bag is a lazy and
wasteful item. Ban the darn bags already!
Require conservation in recycling.
We do not support the ban on single-use plastic bags. We use them as garbage can bags. This
would force us to buy the bigger and thicker bags. More waste!
It is not the cities business to say if I can use these bags or not...wasting money on something like
this when schools are closing is a waste of my tax money.
My local grocery store has a reminder written on the pavement to use your own bags. That's a
good idea as most often bags are left in the car.
I don't want to get rid of plastic bags. Thank you!
This survey would have benefited from a review by a professional social scientist as there are a
couple of places where it isn't as clear as it could have been.
I think its a good idea to eliminate plastic (one time use) bags from grocery stores. . . I'll figure out
what to use for the litter box and my waste baskets.
I do not want the city to ban plastic bags. I prefer them to paper because many studies show they
have less environmental impact.
Do it.
I WANT PAPER AND REUSABLE ONLY
I fully agree and support the ban of plastic bags.
I completely support the ban on single-use plastic bags, and I think it will help people think more
about other options.
I was told we couldn't throw a plastic bag in the recycle bin and if it's changed, I don't know about
that yet. If we could, I would do so so.
I believe that if the ban goes into effect that all stores in Eugene should offer paper bags as a
substitute at a cost of five cents per bags. I believe that this small charge will encourage many
who do not currently use reusable bags to do so. However, no one should have to have or use
reusable bags to go shopping in Eugene.
I completely support a bag ban. I spoke with my 18 office mates & 17 supported it, too. I also
think education is important as many people think a plastic bag in co-mingled is okay.
My choice. My right. End the nanny state mentality. Expect massive protests if this issue persists.
Thank you so much for offering this option. I hope that we will BAN the plastic bag!!
These lightweight, strong, reuseable bags are one of the most convenient inventions ever devised
for carrying items such as groceries and other small but bulky items. I usually carry all eight, or so,
grocery bags at the same time from the garage to the house; saving many trips compared to if
they were paper or cloth bags. This is no small advantage in winter and/or when it's raining.
I would gladly pay the extra 5-10 cents to "purchase" a plastic bag when needed.
They are destroying our planet. America has always set the example for the world, let's continue
that trend by banning the use of plastic bags! Just say no to the lobbyists and listen to the earth.
