Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
I do all my shopping in Eugene. I would prefer that plastic bags not be available for our use.
Business decisions, such as which bags to use, are best left to the retailer.
I'll support any sustainable project.
In addition to reusing plastic bags, we have been reusing yogurt containers and other plastic
containers for all sorts of things for many, many years--including using them at restaurants for
carrying out leftovers. We routinely carry them in our car for that purpose.
Ban all petrochemical-based plastics, and start supporting the development, distribution, use, and
recycling of plant-based plastics like hemp, flax, etc.
I am strongly in support of a ban on plastic bags, as many stores don't even offer paper anymore.
Why doesn't this survey have a question asking about support of the ban??
I feel there is always a new issue where the government is trying to pressure me into something.
There seems to be more urgent issues to deal with and spend money on. People have became ill
from their reusable bags. Bacteria forms in them. I prefer to use the store plastic bags for many
purposes. Just leave it be, if stores don't want to use plastic bags, they can choose and cause
their customers inconvenience. But keep us tax payers with some choices please!
There would probably be more people in favor if the ban if it didn't include a charge for paper
bags. No one should be penalized, they just should be illiminated.
Not enough people reuse and or recycle plastic bags. Therefore, they should be banned as the
environmental damage far outweighs the inconvenience of their absence from use at stores.Old
habits are hard to break and can be inconvenient for awhile, but we will adapt.
Plastic bags had their time - now that we have experienced their ill-effect its tiime to get rid of
them.
It is so easy these days to get cloth type bags that you can reuse many times.
We don't need a plastic bag ban. What we DO need is less government intrusion into our lives,
and less of the government telling us what we want, don't want, will do, and won't do. I pay my
damn taxes. Let me make my own damn decisions. Stop treating me like a damn child.
there are many uses for free plastic bags. to ban them would require the purchase of expensive
plastic bags that would be more damaging to the environment. if one does not recycle now, they
wont recycle whatever is used in the place of plastic bags. you gain nothing by any ban.
Ban plastic bags in Lane County.
If you ban these bags you must ban all plstic bags ..freezer bags, sandwich bags, garbage bags
etc. They are not re-usable.
Strongly oppose this, and just for the record, EMX expansion as well! I am a native Oregonian.
It would help a lot of all stores would put signs up at all of their entrances REMINDING people to
bring in their reusable bags. I haven't seen a single store with this reminder--yet.

Kroger Co., the nation's largest supermarket chain, had been giving three- to five-cent rebates or
fuel discounts for each reusable bag. But it ended the bonuses this year in some regions.
Customer feedback indicates most want to use reusable bags, company officials say; it's a matter
of making it a habit. So Kroger officials say they're focusing more on promotions and educational
efforts, investing in signs and other visible reminders.

Now, many Kroger parking lots are dotted with signs asking "Are your reusable bags still in the
car?" Messages around stores tout the environmental value of bag reuse. A reusable bag
replaces hundreds of disposable bags, one says; another: "Less Plastic? Fantastic." Kroger also
sent shoppers coupons for reusable bags, holds bag design contests and giveaways, and puts
out containers for recycling plastic bags.
