Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
Plastic bags are a huge waste of resources. It's not difficult to use reusable cloth bags. People
need to be responsible. Plastic bags also create a totally preventable litter problem. There is no
reason to keep using plastic bags from retailers.
I dispose of plastic bags when they are a container for other things.
I live part of the year in Maui County, Hi where plastic bags have been banned since 2011. It was
a very easy transition. and has made a huge difference in the number of bags seen blowing in the
wind, caught in the trees and floating in the ocean.
Plastic bags are great. All one needs to do is be responsible and recycle them.
If you ban them I will just have to buy plastic bags for the cat box and poop scooping in the yard
and on walks.
It's nice to know there are no serious problems in Eugene. Can you tell me where I should recycle
the gang tags on my mailbox?
Eliminating the free garbage bags for the poor seems arbitrary and punitive. HACSA doesn't
provide recycle options or even garbage disposer units, and require that we use plastic garbage
bags in all their public housing units. Now I'll be required to further whittle at my very small
monthly income buying trash bags and reusible shopping bags.
I agree that the plastic bag should be banned. People need to start realizing that they are
destroying the oceans, are expensive to make. We should not be living in a "throw-away" world!
I fully support this initiative!
You need to stay out of our business and our lives. It is not your job to interfere in EVERY
SINGLE ASPECT of our LIVES...and CONTROL AND GOVERN EVERYTHING!!! LEAVE US
ALONE!!
Plastic bags are an issue only because folks do not recycle them- they should have a deposit
associated with them, and especially for those who use them for dog poop.
Thank you for conducting this survey.
I fully support this idea.
I do almost all of my shopping in Eugene. I also work in a retail outlet where we use single use
plastic bags. I am in favor of outlawing them.
If people had to pay for paper bags it would not take long for them to remember to bring in their
own bags.
WE HOPE THAT THIS SURVEY IS NOT ANOTHER EUGENE CITY COUNCIL"MAKE US FEEL
GOOD". WE NEED THE BAGS THAT THE STORES PROVIDE. DO YOU RELIZE WHAT A
SMALL AMOUNT OF SPACE PLASTIC BAGS TAKE COMPARED TO EVERYTHING ELSE
THAT WE PUT IN OUR GARBAGE CANS?
if plastic bags were banned, we would find other ways the haul our merchandise, it should be all
stores not just grocery stores.
I really don't get why we are so stressed about plastic bags while plastic packaging for everything
from amazon.com books to every electronic device under the Sun is not considered.

It's totally obvious that we need curbside recycling of plastic bags, plastic from "packing air"
packaging, plastic from electronics, etc.

How about having Sanipac providing another recycling bin for these kinds of plastics??
I watched a woman with her small child walk down the street with 6 plastic bags filled with
groceries. If that store would spend money on giving those reusable bags away as bags to be
reused, maybe people would remember to bring them back. Easier to carry and more fits in one
bag.
