Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
I would be fine banning plastic bags. Using reusable fabric bags is something I have wanted to
do, I just haven't purchased any and remembering to bring them would take getting used to.
As I consider the demise of the carry-out plastic bag, I do not see myself eliminating these bags
from my daily use. For garbage can and waste basket liners, animal waste, etc. I'll just purchase
bags and continue to use plastic. I also find the potential for cross contamination in reusable bags
a real concern.
I want Eugene to ban plastic bags.
I've been known to just have them put my groceries back in the cart, at which time I take my cart
to the car, and load up boxes that exist in my trunk/hatchback. Works great! No bags! (except
for veggies and meat.
Aside from the fact that there are additional uses for so-called "single-use" plastic bags... it would
be fantastic if the city government kept its nose out of decisions that rightfully belong to
businesses and customers.
Will have to cut more trees if you outlaw plastic bags. The ecofreaks should be all over this one.
At the very least let us have a vote on this dumb rule. We are TOLD too meant times this is what
you are going to to!
I've carried my own bags for over 30 years (department stores, grocery stores, etc) and used to
find people rolling their eyes or wondering what I was doing. Now it's more thank you's.

I finally bought bags for my family, who also use them. The hard part for them is to remember to
take them out of vehicles.
Our community just enacted a single-use plastic bag ban. If people want a paper bag, there's a
charge for it.
PLEASE consider a ban on plastic bags. If that is not doable, then please look at implementing a
per bag surcharge to customers.
Ban them. They are a blight on the planet.
whatever will all those pet owners do if the source for plastic bags dries up..will they have to carry
their pet dooin their hands when they pick it up?
why don't you people get a life. You have better things to do then waste time on this
Shop Eugene about once every two month's.
I don't want to see a ban on the plastic bags. My family finds many uses for them around the
house after bringing them home. I would be nice to have easier recycling options/locations, but I
much prefer using the plastic bags with the handles versus the paper bags with no handles. More
plastic bags can be carried at one time and makes them easier to transfer than paper bags. I do
have reusable bags, but am constantly forgetting them.
I keep cloth bags in my car, but often forget to bring them in with me. Simple solution would be a
sign in parking lot and/or on entrance saying, "Did you remember your own bags?" I am
personally in favor of this bag ban, although I think bags do need to be available for those who
can't afford to purchase or have forgotten theirs. In the old days, people brought their baskets to
market. Sometimes the old time-honored ways are the best.
Get rid of plastic bags!!!!! Come on Eugene be more progressive and make a change!
spend TAX money on services. this kind of thing tells me the city has more than enough
resources andTAX money.
I think that there should be a 5 c additional charge for a plastic bag.
I am sick and tired of government deciding to BAN items like these; why not BAN disposable
diapers! They do NOT break down after years of being in the dump! I think the time would be
better served on more important issues why we are subsidiizing local cities---example:I heard
that several raft boats were used basically on my dime(subsidies) for people going down the river
last wknd! This is wrong! It takes money out of riverguides etc. who struggle to make ends meet
now without having to try and compete with the city of Eugene!
