Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
Stop wasting my tax money for things like this and stay the hell out of my fucking business.
It is all about educating people, i.e.,

-cloth bags are given away by some retailers, if people look for them, so they don't cost anything.

-they are NOT unsanitary, just throw them in with the wash monthly.

- etc.
if we want more illness we we do this or we leave the junk in the store by keepping the bags
This isn't a survey about whether or not to ban the bags, this is a bag-use survey.
I am willing to volunteer to get people informed about why it is important to ban plastic bags and
allow the consumers to be informed. Please inform the community with ways to get involved to
help this serious issue of too many plastic bags.
I don't feel that it is government's job to tell me that I can't use them. Stop wasting tax payers
money on this stuff and do something that will make a difference.
I'm a Lane County Master Recycler and believe this plastic bag ban is crucial.
If plastic bags are banned I would have to purchase them for home use.
Please do the ban on the bags. It makes me upset to see so many plastic bags coming out with
some shoppers.
With so many people in Eugene still unemployed, uninsured, paying outrageous city taxes for
gasoline, and generally barely making ends meet, it would be nice to see city council spend their
time and money on REAL issues as opposed to a ridiculous plastic bag ban.
Banning plastic bags would be good for the environment but would make shopping not as user
friendly.
I think they should be banned
I will support the ordinance. Just need to focus and retrain old habits. We are improving each
month. I wish that there did not have to be a law to do this but I respect and want the environment
to remain and prosper for my children and my potential grandchildren.
Why does government have to take away our right to use plastic bags that are more sanitary for
the grocery clerks then handling people's dirty reuseable bags?
What will we use that the garbage company will accept for vacuum dirt and cat litter?
I use these bags for many messy purposes for which I would need to go out and buy heavier,
commercially available bags that produce more waste. If Eugene bans their use, I will shop
elsewhere whenever possile.
If some people want to reuse or recycle plastic bags or use reusable bags, nobody is stopping
them. However, don't stop me from asking for and using plastic bags. And don't forget that plastic
was the solution to using paper for bags, which are once again being offered as a plastic
alternative. I guess we should not have knee jerked our way away from paper based on over
emotional feelings of the environmentalists.
Cutting way back on plastic bags in stores is a great idea, but they do have their place. When
having to walk home and carry groceries in the rain, a plastic bag outside of a paper bag is
necessary, if you do not have your own. We often forget to carry our bags with us. Also, I use
them for many, many other things around the house.
If this ban goes through, I will go over to Springfield to do my shopping!
There are much more serious problems in Eugene and the US than plastic grocery bags. The
politicians should be addressing the serious problems not the trivia, that is what they are paid for!
A complete ban on plastic bags would be wonderful - at least try to make this work! Please!!!
If you stop these bags I will shop in Springfield
I hope there will be no more government mandates put on the public. Please allow private
business to put in place incentives to consumers in regard to the use of plastic bags.
