Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
We need deposits on all glass & plastic beverage containers.
Please do this!!!!
I use plastic bags for a lot of different things. Please do not ban them!
I think everyone including me is slow to change old habits. There are certain commodities that
require a bag of some sort i.e. bulk foods and some fruit and veg
This is one more petro-based product that should be finally done with, eliminated. Most people
don't realize all the negatives associated with these bags.
Please see chrisjordan.com to see actual photographs of what the plastics in the environment are
doing to our environment. It will shock you!

Read (c. April 2012) Edward Humes' book: Garbology. It will open up your eyes even if you think
you know about these issues.
Other cities have already gotten on board with this, there is really no excuse why we cannot take
more assertive action to get rid of these plastic bags (although if they ARE easily recyclable, I
think that is a significant help.)
If I didn't get single-use bags at stores, I would switch to used paper bags for trash liners. I
support a ban on single-use bags.
Believe consumer can readily carry more bags than paper.

Dog walkers can more easily keep our parks and walkways clean. People should be encouraged
to act responsibly by preserving choice of plastic or paper.
There should be at minimum a dime per bag charge for retailer provided bags in the city of Eugen.
This is important leadership. I will be proud of Eugene if it "bans the bag."
plastic bags have multiple uses and I believe that most people dispose of them in a proper
manner.
The city should not regulate in this area. This should be a market choice; if I don't want a plastic
bag, I can say no thanks. If I believe a business should not offer plastic bags, I can "vote" by
choosing to shop elsewhere. It's time to draw the line on government intrusion into our lives and
freedom of choice.
Just do it! Ban those bags.
I admit I need to get & use reusable bags; ironically enough I'm a huge recycling & composting
fan & need to practice what I preach!
I want to know what people use as garbage bags, if they only use reusable bags for their
groceries. Do the BUY plastic garbage bags?! I prefer to use paper bags for garbage, as I think
they will degrade faster in the landfill.
There are so many other uses for the plastic bags as well as thier intended use. I like them much
better than the purchased re-useable bags. I dont want to have to carry bags with me everywhere
I go. I dont want to have to pay for bags and I dont want to waste water and soap to wash bags.
On the other hand I don't throw the plastic ones in the trash either for obvious reasons. recycle or
reuse!!! Please don't eliminate plastic bags in Eugene.
Save a tree, use a plastic bag. Save an employee from getting sick from a reusable bag, use a
plastic bag that can be recycled.
Reusable bags carry germs that can sicken store employees. Paper bags will cause more trees to
be cut down. Government should not be able to take away our freedom of the choice to use,
plastic or paper or reusable.
I believe government should scale back its intrusion into so many parts of our lives.
