Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
To ban the use of these plastic bags under the guise of "the greater good" is disingenuous at
best, and malicious at worst.

Give people the freedom and allowance to choose what bags they shop with. To do otherwise (no
matter how silly you believe this to sound) just starts us further down the slippery slope of losing
the opportunity to make our own decisions, even if they seem insignificant.

Thank you for reading.
No bag taxes!
If I had to pay a fee for packaging (as in Europe), I would quickly learn to bring my own bag, even
tho I don't use that option much at the moment. It's often hard for me to judge how many bags I
will need. Regardless, I support the ban on free bagging of any sort.
I have used my own cloth bags for over ten years. It's simple! I cringe when I watch how many
plastic bags are used @ the checkouts. This is simply a matter of habbit...and education.
these bags are a convenience we can learn to live without
I am a user of single use plastic bans. But I WANT A BAG BAN. I used to live in London UK and
while I lived there a plastic bag ban was introduced. It only took about 2-3 weeks to remember to
bring reusable bags with me whenever I went out. I lost the habit when I moved here, because
bags are so plentiful. Bring in a ban - people will adapt easily.
I don't shop without my bag because my locomotion is such I cannot get a one use bag home.
I mostly reuse paper bags, I use plastic only when there is something with a risk of leaking. I don't
like seeing plastic litter of any kind, there's way too much of it. But I've also seen shoppers ahead
of me at the checkout with leaky Ice cream containers and packaged meat dripping blood on the
counter. In situations like these it's really important to have additional non-porus wrapping
available. The present self service model encourages over use. I would reccomend that the
plastic bags be kept behind the counter and offered only when actually needed. There is another
issue here. there are stores that insist on automatically putting everything in plastic. Target and
Walmart seem to be the worst offenders and this is one reason I rarely go there. The practice of
cashiers putting merchendise in plastic automatically without offering alternatives should be
banned.
I fully support a plastic bag ban! Thanks!
always keep two or more canvas bags in each vehicle and consider them standard issue for any
shopping trip
Very much favor a ban. People who think we should double down on our recycling efforts aren't
living in the real world; we don't do things for the good of the planet unless we're forced to & it's
going to take govt regulation rather than voluntary efforts.
More public awearness of the polution plastic bags cause might help.
I would love to see EUgene become a city that bans single use plastic bags. Yesterday I watched
a store clerk put a small single object into a plastic bag! We can and should be more aware than
this.
Thanks!

Please ban plastic bags. I have no problem with paying a few cents more to not use them. People
who are lower income should be considered- but they should be able as much as any to bring a
bag. Start and ad campaign reminding people to bring their own bag!
Go for it!
