Attachment D: Text responses from consumer plastic bag ban survey
Everyone should be using reusable bags for carryout bags. Veggie bags? I reuse some of these,
especially at the farmers' market, as many are clean.
Keep your hands OFF my freedoms.
I use my bags until full or thay develope holes. . never are they wasted..
Many people who are low income can't afford to keep buying reusable bags. Also when you walk
or take the bus you don't know how many you need. They are bulky to carry around. All reusable
bags are either too small or too big to hold and carry items.
If i do not have bags for my garbage, I will have to use much more water to clean my buckets. And
water is not cheap. Is this desireable? Plastic bags are less expensive than paper ones for stores
to provide free of charge. Please do not force stores to spend more and to raise their prices even
more. (I am a low-income person who is always thinking: how can I lower my expenses and still
survive?) The City should concentrate on getting more fair paying jobs or more income for low
income people. Not how to make the rich richer or how to keep with the "avant guarde"
regardless.
Won't save the planet but might help people change how they think about things.
Please be one of the leaders of the nation and enact the ban on plastic bags.
I always feel guilty when getting a plastic bag. But I always reuse it somehow. Maybe customers
should be charged a nickel for using plastic, the reverse of what stores do for using reusable
bags.
I think plastic bags for retail use should be eliminated. Regardless of people's good intentions,
very few will be recycled. Many will either end up in the landfill, show up as litter, or at worst,
injure wildlife.
i don't know what to use instead of plastic for keeping veggies especially greens fresh - i'd gladly
use something else!
Nantucket, MA has had a long-time ban on the use of plastic carryout bags, and it works great for
them. I'm sure there are other communities that have similar models. Please help this ban in
Eugene become a reality!
Would love to see a ban!
We need to change our habits and using one time plastic bags is just a habit. People can learn to
use reusable bags.
People will moan and groan but they will learn to adapt when they don't have a choice. When I
visited Europe in the 90's, they didn't use plastic bags at the stores because it was too expensive.
They thought we were crazy, wasteful, and rich to use plastic bags all the time. It'll catch on!
There needs to be a fee to make it fair so all grocers have a level playing field. I keep hearing tht
the poor can't afford reusable bags. maybe if you are elligible for food stamps you can get a bag
at reduced cost. Most are around a dollar and they are handed out for free at all kinds of events.
I take my own bags 99.9% of the time and use few that I get for dog poop. Yet I think the bag ban
is stupid. One--city council has more pressing issues to focus on and two--focus on offering
incentives like Market of Choice does like 5 cents off for each bag you bring. I'm okay with
charging for bags but a ban is just dumb!!!!!!!!
It would be MOST convenient if plastic bags could be picked up with the recycling. But, having
clearly marked recycling stations near the entrance of stores would also be a great want to remind
people to recycle, and to make it easy to do so.
We live in Florence, but do a substantial amount

of our shopping in Eugene and Springfiend.
Let's use bags which biodegrade.
please ban the single use plastic bags
