Mayor Kitty Piercy and members of City Council:

My name is Taylor Hawke. I go to Prairie Mountain School. We as a school want to

change Golden Garden ponds because many of us have lost something important to us

there. Just this past summer, Nick Davis drowned there. The Davis family lost there

oldest son and now they are missing 1 child that will forever haunt and sadden their

family. Many people have lost a child, a family member, and even a friend. We as the

City of Eugene have got to make the ponds a safer environment.

It is very important that we make the ponds as spic and span as we can because if we

don't, many people can lose another kid, friend, or family member. I'm sure that if one of
you lost someone important to you, you would try to make this a better place. Think of
how the Davis family feels about losing a piece from the family. That is why they want to
make this a better place, so other people don't lose someone important to them. It is very
hard to lose a family member at the age of 12. It is extremely hard. I will do any thing it

takes to not let other people drown here.

Our class plans on putting in plants to make a better environment for the ponds. We need

your help to make this park a lot nicer and safer. There are a whole bunch of ideas to

make the ponds awesome. We need to cut down the weeds in them so they don't tangle

up with people if they do choose to swim. Will you please, take a few minutes to hear

what we and other family's have to say? Please listen.
Sincerely,

Taylor Hawke
